Pound Shop Pretties

The challenge over at DCM this week is:
Pound Shop Pretties.

search out those pound shops or dollar stores and find new things to add to your stash - then create a card using your new found bargains!!

My crafty bargain was an embroidery kit from TK Maxx.  Loads of Anchor embroidery floss all in lovely pinks, reds and creams, a large rectangle of embroidery fabric and a stitching chart (won't be needing that lol!) all for £1.

Another crafty find was this zip trim from John Lewis.  I wouldn't say that was a bargain though!

Images and Sentiment: Pink Petticoat - Material Girl
Cardstock:  Pink Petticoat - Organics Kraft Pack
Chalks and Promarkers
Seam Binding
Ribbon Rose and Press Stud fastener

It's out! The Creative Cardmaking Special Edition 7. The Pink Petticoat Special Edition. It's available online now. And it has a pink cover : )

It has 32 free Pink Petticoat printed papers, images and sentiments, and is absolutely FULL of beautiful cards you can make with them from the best UK designers such as Angie Parkins, Missy Neal, Wendy Martin, Andrea Gourley, Dawny Phillips, Kirsty Maluga, Patsy Jackson, Jo Kill, to name just a few ... and including, of course, our very own Creative Team - Katie, Leann, Terrie and me.

And, we have 10 copies to give away. We each have 2 of them : )

And it's very simple to win one. Each of the girls from the Creative Team have posted one of the cards they designed especially for the magazine on their blog.  To win just leave a comment on each card.

Here's my pocket card using the 'Big Fella' collection.

Here are the links to the other girls amazing cards.

We will each randonly select two winners and post them on our blogs on Thursday morning - the day the magazine is in your local craft shop too. And each winner will receive a copy of the magazine.

Don't forget to check back on Thursday to see if you're one of them : )

Let's Craft and Create - Guest Designer

I was really flattered when Mandy asked if I'd like to be a Guest Designer over at Let's Craft and Create for the 'Anything But A Card' challenge.

I’ve ‘upcycled’ a plastic container to make a birthday gift box and filled it with some simple card making supplies.  A great pressie for a newbie card maker.  I've included small square card blanks, designer papers and sentiments - Pink Petticoat of course :), flowers and lace.  It's the sort of present I wish I'd been given when I started out, it would have saved me a lot of card disasters!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Safe to post this card now.  I find making cards for my nearest and dearest so hard, they never seem good enough.  For this one I tried a different approach and didn't agonise over it for days - just went for it. Him indoors loved it, so my new approach must have worked!

I've used the fabulous new digi stamp from Pink Petticoat - Quirky Qwerty, you get this lovely typewriter image and lots of sentiments to cut out and stick.  There'll be lots of  ideas and inspiration from the Creative Team over on the Blog this week.  Another favourtie of mine is the Organics Kraft Pack, 7 different shades and textures of Kraft.  For some added texture I've printed the Kraft onto ribbed card.

I'm entering it for the monthly challenge over at Samuel Taylor's blog (thanks for the link Terrie).  There's a chance to win some Copic markers and the theme is simple. "Copic Chic/ Promarker Gal" - so anything coloured with those pens goes!  I've coloured the typewriter quite simply with a 'Tan' Promarker.  I really must learn how to do the shading thing!

Paper Frills - How To...

I had a few comments on my paper frill on THIS card.  So I thought I would post a few pics to show how I did it.

Just take a piece of paper and punch a border down one side.

Now you need to make it more pliable, I put it through a paper crimper a few times and screwed it up in a ball.

Apply a strip of double sided tape where you would like to apply the frill. Then arrange the border in pleats as you stick it down.  I've found the trick is not to be too neat with your pleats then it has more of a 'fabric' look about it.

I'm entering my card in the 'Heartfelt' challenge over at Let's Craft and Create, you can just make out the tiny hearts on the patterned paper!  That's what I like about the Let's Craft and Create challenges, there's not loads of rules to follow and you get 2 weeks to enter.  I couldn't post this card before because I was waiting until I sent it off to the lovely Lisa from Tigerlily Makes.  I've just booked a Felt Making Course - I can't wait 'til April!

A Twisted Easel!

3 lovely new releases at Pink Petticoat this week. The cutest Li'l Baby Buggy Image, Tiny {New Baby} Sentiments and  'Organics' Kraft Paper Pack.  I've used them all to make my version of a twisted easel card.

Here's how I made the card base.  I cut a piece of cardstock 13 x 27 cm and scored it along the long side at 13cm.  I wanted the 1cm overhang so that the paper frill could be seen when the card is closed.

Then scored diagonally across the card front.

Other Pink Petticoat Supplies: Gingham - Willow with White, Tiny leopard Print – Turquoise
Decorative Edge Scissors – Pinking
Promarkers: Pastel Blue, Blush and Pink Carnation
Punches: Stampin up Word Window and Scallop Border
Satin Ribbon, Vintage Buttons and Embroidery Floss

An award to share!!!

It's always a lovely surprise to receive an award.  Thanks to the lovely Jenny for brightening my week.
In accepting I had to sign up to a few little rules...

1) You have been tagged, do you want to accept? YES! then create a post on your blog and post the love blog photo.
2) Link back to the person who gave you the award and say if you accept.
3) Choose 3-5 of your favourite blogs to tag, link these in your post too and tell the lucky people they have been tagged.
As the aim of this award is to bring unknown good blogs to light, please don't tag somebody with 3000 followers.

Ok, so this is difficult bit! I Love all the blogs I visit and it's so difficult to pick just a few...

Thank you all so much for the inspiration and support!

I'll be back tomorrow with my Pink Petticoat make for this week, enjoy your evening.

Flowers for February!

Over at DCM as it's the first Friday in the month the theme is flowers associated with the month of February.  February's flowers are Violet and the Primrose and here is my card...

Now it started out rather differently, I went for the vintage look, and covered it in distress ink.  I always struggle with vintage, my attempts just look dirty!   So the vintage version ended up in the bin and here is a nice clean one! Tfl
