How to make a Stay Closed Box...

Here's a step-by step guide to make my take on the stay closed box.  Fill it with sweets and treats for a quick and easy gift idea for Father's Day.

First cut card to measure 18 x 21cm then score at 10 and 20 cm on the long side and at 2.5 and 15 cm on the short side.

Now, on the bottom score line, mark at 5 and 15 cm (the centre of each of the two 10 cm panels) and score diagonally from this centre point to the top corners of both panels as marked in pencil above.

Fold all the score lines, cut away the top and bottom section of the 1 cm flap and cut from the top and bottom edge to the apex of each of the three scored triangles.

Fold up to form the box, securing the side flap and four base flaps with extra strong double sided tape.

Stair Step Card for Father's Day...

The new Mr Mister range from Docrafts. is just perfect for the men in your life and it's arrived in time for Father's Day!  I'm always on the lookout for an on-trend 'man' themed collection and this range with it's eclectic mix of iconic prints, geometric patterns and typography ticks all the boxes for me!
Here I've made a stair step card using papers and elements from the A4 Ultimate Die-cut and Paper Pack.  The finished card is 15 x 15 cm  with a depth of 5 cm but folds flat for posting.

How to make a Stair Step card

Cut 2 pieces of card  to measure 25 x 15 cm and score along both sides at 5 cm intervals so that you have a scored grid of 15 squares on each piece of card.

At the top of each piece cut away 3 squares as shown by the shaded area.

Cut along these two score lines marked in pencil.  Do the same on the second piece of card.

Now fold up the bottom score line on both pieces of card and stick together with strong glue or double sided tape.

Fold over the top score line on all three steps and secure with tape or glue and decorate!

What do you think?  Have you tried this card fold before?  If I've inspired you to give it a go please come back and link to it in the comments..

Border dies my product picks...

To add a little more interest and liven up this card I added a matching die cut scalloped border to the inside edge.  That's what I like about Kaisercraft paper pads, as well as being slightly larger at 6.5 inches square, they come complete with 4 pages of diecut borders, shapes and elements.
I'm a lot happier with the design now I've added the border, which got me thinking about maybe investing in a set of  scalloped border dies.  So I went searching and searching, here's my pick of the crop!

Lawn Fawn Stitched Border Set, love the stitched detail

Sizzix Thinlits Die Set - Borders by Stephanie Barnard
A value for money set with 7 dies in the pack plus some double sided patterns so loads of design possibilities.

Xcut Xpress A4 Border Dies 1
A more ornate set of extra long A4 border dies, so may need extended cutting plates.

What do you think?  Which one would you go for?
